Disney Prepares for World Princess Week with a Kickoff Concert!
It's that time again! World Princess Week kicks off this Sunday with yet another Disneyland concert. It's become a recent tradition to have the original actresses of the Disney Princesses gather around Sleeping Beauty Castle to perform their greatest hits for World Princess Week. Last year's concert, which was hosted by Once Upon a Time's Ginnifer Goodwin, was somewhat disappointing due to only being ten minutes long. This year's concert promises a little more substance with more than twice as many performers and a network television run on Sunday, August 16th at 8 PM Eastern Time/7PM Central. The concert will be available for streaming on Disney+ as well as several other services.
The concert is being promoted as Disney Princess: The Ultimate Concert Celebration, not to be confused with Disney Princess: The Concert, which was performed by actresses who played Disney's princess characters on Broadway as opposed to in film. The classic animation attendees include Jodi Benson, Paige O'Hara, Lea Salonga, Judy Kuhn, Susan Egan, Anika Noni Rose, and Auli'i Cravalho. They are joined by live-action princess stars Brandy, Catherine Laga'aia, and Halle Bailey, who was leaked doing a duet with Jodi Benson for their shared role of Ariel. Though many of these actresses have performed live on stage together in the past, this marks the first year that all of these specific performers have gathered together for a single show. Judy Kuhn, in particular, who played the singing voice of Pocahontas, has rarely made additional appearances outside of her cameo in Enchanted.
This is the sixth annual World Princess Week since Disney started doing it in 2021 as part of the Ultimate Princess Celebration. The event is typically accompanied by specialty items in the theme parks, musical surprises, and crossover specials. In 2023 and 2025, Disney+ released a couple of LEGO Princess specials, which brought the princesses together for humorous tongue-in-cheek adventures to save their LEGO kingdom from classic Disney villains. This year, a new special will be added to the Disney+ roster, entitled LEGO Disney Princess: Magical Mayhem, which appears to be along the same lines as the previous two. The special will premiere on Friday, August 21st, wrapping up the week.
More princess celebrations are taking place this weekend at the D23 Expo, where Disney revealed a first look at Anna and Elsa's costumes from Frozen 3 and 4 on their show floor. The two queens are decked out in regal winter gear reminiscent of Belle's pink winter look from Beauty and the Beast. Anna's feminine pink dress is accented by floral decor reminiscent of her original costume from the first film, and Elsa's flowing blue gown is accompanied by a cape with a fur-lined hood in classic princess fashion. Frozen 3 comes to theaters on November 24, 2027, so there's still a long wait before we can see these new costumes in action.
