Disney wrapped up World Princess Week today with a new LEGO special on Disney+ . Magical Mayhem  is another princess tag team special featuring all the original Disney Princess voices in a zany animated LEGO adventure. This 22-minute animated feature had much lower stakes than the previous two . Instead of dangerous vengeful villains, the princesses faced off against a big rainstorm and a mischievous Cheshire Cat. The whole special took place at their castle, which they share with each other. The concept of all the princesses hanging out together started with Wreck-It Ralph 2  and continues to gain traction through the references to the Princess Council in Sofia the First: Royal Magic . The overall scope of this special is smaller than the other two, in which the princesses faced off against dragons and saved entire kingdoms. It's that time again ! World Princess Week  kicks off this Sunday with yet another Disneyland concert . It's become a recent tradition to have the original actresses of the Disney Princesses gather in Disneyland to perform their greatest hits for World Princess Week. Last year's concert, which was hosted by Once Upon a Time's Ginnifer Goodwin , was somewhat disappointing due to only being ten minutes long. This year's concert promises a little more substance with more than twice as many performers and a network television run on Sunday, August 16th at 8 PM Eastern Time/7PM Central. The concert will be available for streaming on Disney+ as well as several other services. World Princess Week  is back, and that means fun new surprises from Disney! This year's princess treat was more of a throwback to 2023  when Disney launched an adorable LEGO special on Disney+ called The Castle Quest . In honor of World Princess Week, a sequel premiered on their exclusive streaming service called LEGO Disney Princess: Villains Unite , which is within the same vein as its predecessor. However, the new special is only half the length of The Castle Quest , falling at a paltry 23 minutes. This is a surprisingly short runtime considering that it took two years to create the star-studded sequel. Villains Unite  picks up where The Castle Quest  left off, with the LEGO versions of the iconic Disney Princesses working together to protect a sparkly pink castle that they share. We are two days into World Princess Week , the annual celebration of the Disney Princess brand , which takes place from August 25th to 31st this year. The beloved brand has moved on from its Ultimate Princess Celebration campaign  to begin a new marketing campaign called "Create Your World." The campaign kicked off at the beginning of the month with a commercial entitled  "The Magic Within"  in which little girls imagine Disney characters and symbols popping into their ordinary lives so they can live the modern princess life . This particular brand campaign seems more consumer-based than "Live Your Story,"  which encourages incorporating princess traits like kindness and bravery in everyday life. "Create Your World" sounds like an invitation to buy lots of Disney merchandise and turn your home into a castle , which is on brand with modern  Disney's questionable decisions that favor corporate greed over good storytelling. Today marks Disney's third annual World Princess Week , and it kicked off with a surprise special on Disney+  featuring four of the original voices called LEGO Disney Princess: The Castle Quest . The special featured LEGO versions of Snow White, Ariel, Tiana, Rapunzel, and Moana embarking on a quest to rescue King Triton from Gaston, who used Snow White's Magic Mirror to help him take over an abandoned castle. While his unexpected combination may seem a little reminiscent of Wreck-It Ralph 2 , in which Vanellope got together with a group of all the Disney Princesses, this special takes things to the next level. Since the characters and backgrounds are made of LEGO bricks, it doesn't take itself seriously and goes all out with Easter eggs and references. For instance, Ariel and Moana's quest brings them to a pirate ship where they encounter Smee from Peter Pan , Iago, and the Magic Carpet from Aladdin . When I learned that 20/20 was having a reunion of Rodgers and Hammerstein's Cinderella  from 1997 to celebrate World Princess Week , I was expecting a journalist like Barbara Walters  to show up in a big room with the cast and lead a discussion about their memories of shooting together and what they've been up to since then. What I got instead was a mash-up of individual interviews from various people involved with the film from the past and present day talking for an hour about what a great movie it was. Don't get me wrong; it was  great, but that isn't what comes to mind when I hear "reunion." Not only was there never more than one person on camera at a time, but there was also no host to introduce and close out the special. If someone tuned in without knowing anything about it, they would have no idea what they were watching. The biggest highlight for me wasn't even part of the special. The prince is giving a ball... again! When Disney announced their Ultimate Princess Celebration last year , I was under the impression that it would be a year-long event culminating in World Princess Week , when they aired the mediocre Disney Princess Remix special on Disney Channel . Instead, it looks like the event will be ongoing until they can find a new way to keep their Disney Princess brand relevant . That means World Princess Week is back for another round! It will take place next week from August 21st through August 27th. Instead of a teenybopper remix of princess classics, however, Disney is doing something a little different this year. Their primary television network, ABC , will air a 25th anniversary reunion special of the 1997 production of Rodgers and Hammerstein's Cinderella  on their news show,  20/20 , followed by a presentation of the film, airing live for the first time since it debuted on The Wonderful World of Disney. If you haven't heard the news, Disney is celebrating its princesses all year long with the Ultimate Princess Celebration . They took things a step further this week with the first ever World Princess Week, a week-long celebration dripping with princess merchandise, videos, specials, and music. Disney is a master of grand finales, so the festivities conclude today with a 30-minute special called Disney Princess Remixed: An Ultimate Princess Celebration airing on Disney Channel at 7:30PM PT/ET. The special is available to watch right now on both the Disney Now and Disney Plus apps. It consists of four remixed Disney Princess songs performed by teen Disney Channel stars and ends with the premiere of the official music video for the newest Disney Princess anthem, "Starting Now."
