It's information overload for princess fans this week as World Princess Week begins and the D23 Expo comes to a close . Last night, the Disney Princess Ultimate Concert Celebration aired on TV and is currently available to watch on YouTube . New announcements and teasers got leaked all weekend long at the D23 Expo , and I'm here to round them up for you, starting with the most mysterious announcement of them all. It's that time again ! World Princess Week  kicks off this Sunday with yet another Disneyland concert . It's become a recent tradition to have the original actresses of the Disney Princesses gather in Disneyland to perform their greatest hits for World Princess Week. Last year's concert, which was hosted by Once Upon a Time's Ginnifer Goodwin , was somewhat disappointing due to only being ten minutes long. This year's concert promises a little more substance with more than twice as many performers and a network television run on Sunday, August 16th at 8 PM Eastern Time/7PM Central. The concert will be available for streaming on Disney+ as well as several other services. Disney Jr. has been sharing sporadic updates on their social media  to remind us that the upcoming Sofia the First sequel series, Royal Magic , is set to debut later this year. The frustrating part is that they are keeping the project very much under wraps, avoiding any artwork, plot, or production details, and focusing instead on nostalgic clips of the original show. This makes fans hungry for more information, causing them to turn to less reliable sources for any nugget of hype they can find. As promised in my review of the Disney Magic  cruise ship, I am taking the time to write a full review of Twice Charmed , the long-running "Cinderella" musical that is exclusive to the Disney Magic and serves as the inspiration for the 2007 direct-to-DVD sequel, Cinderella III: A Twist in Time . Though many people are familiar with Cinderella III  since the DVD was more accessible to the public, Twice Charmed predates it by two years and contains many key differences from the film, including original songs and an original character, Franco, the wicked Fairy Godfather to Lady Tremaine. While the plot of Lady Tremaine using magic to turn back time so Prince Charming will choose one of her daughters resembles the animated sequel, the stage show is an entirely different experience that takes full advantage of its live medium. Disney has had a double feature in the works  for a few years now to conclude the Frozen  saga. What's better than one sequel but two? New plot details  were recently revealed about Frozen 3 , which is set to debut in November 2027, the month of Disney Princess movies . After reading some of the initial reviews , I was skeptical about Moana 2 . However, now that I've seen it, I can say with confidence that it is an underrated classic like Wish . While it may be an infamous Disney sequel  that was converted from a failed concept for an animated series , we've come a long way from the days when Disney would slap three barely finished episodes together and call it a sequel . This is a polished, complete, and cohesive story with theatrical-quality animation and music. I am grateful that Disney finally released something original instead of another  live-action remake . Considering the destructive path they've been on lately , this movie is a step in the right direction. Off the Page is the sequel to the novel Between the Lines , which inspired my current musical obsession . Like Between the Lines , it is written by Jodi Picoult and her daughter, Samantha van Leer . It does not work as a standalone or a direct sequel to the musical. For that reason, if you want to avoid spoilers, I would suggest not reading this review unless you've already read Between the Lines . I would also like to take this time to point out that whoever was in charge of marketing these books did a terrible job. The books are fun and entertaining, but they are both listed as YA with realistic-looking covers that do not represent the whimsical and fantastical stories within them. The original cover for Off the Page was better than the current one because it portrays characters coming out of a book. Almost two years ago, Disney announced  that they were working on a spinoff series to Sofia the First . The best place to reveal new updates about this mysterious series would have been the D23 Expo , which took place in Anaheim last weekend. Instead, Disney Jr. quietly posted on Instagram  today that we can expect to see the new series, Sofia the First: Royal Magic  on Disney+ in 2026. This is fantastic news if it's true, but Disney has broken promises on many  other upcoming shows  over the upcoming years, so it's a good idea to take all their announcements with a grain of salt until there is something more substantial like a trailer or release date. Still, it's exciting to have a title and more information about the series. The princess movies of 2024 are few and far between , but there are still a few to look forward to. While it may not be the original princess story we were hoping for, Disney announced Moana 2 earlier this year along with a brief teaser. The full trailer that launched today does not give much more information about the film's plot, but it does reveal a bit more footage. Following the concept for a cancelled TV series, Moana 2 sees Moana reuniting with some old friends for a new adventure at sea. The movie is set for Disney's usual princess movie release date of Thanksgiving weekend , marking it as one of their biggest blockbusters planned for the year. The fact that they gave such a prestigious date to a sequel is somewhat disheartening but may imply a higher quality film than the Disney sequels of old .
