Disney Teases Princess Experience, Frozen 3, and More at D23 Expo!
It's information overload for princess fans this week as World Princess Week begins and the D23 Expo comes to a close. Last night, the Disney Princess Ultimate Concert Celebration aired on TV and is currently available to watch on YouTube. It clocks in at 20 minutes, which is double the length of last year's concert. New announcements and teasers got leaked all weekend long at the D23 Expo, and I'm here to round them up for you, starting with the most mysterious announcement of them all.
Disney Theatrical Group has announced a Disney Princess Experience, with very little information as to what that actually means. Their official website includes a vague trailer and a mailing list, along with newly launched Facebook and Instagram pages that only contain one post with the same vague trailer. Since the event is hosted by their theatrical department, it might draw inspiration from Andrew Lloyd Webber's recent Masquerade phenomenon, a new interactive experience that allows fans to directly participate in a performance of Phantom of the Opera.
I must admit that I'm intrigued by the potential of a traveling interactive princess show. When I compared the dining experiences at Medieval Times and Pirate's Dinner Adventure, I always imagined what it would be like to have a similar show where participants can interact directly with princess stories, like helping Cinderella get ready for the ball or Ariel find her voice. The closest experience thus far only exists in two mildly disappointing video games, Disney Princess Enchanted Journey, which came out in 2007, and My Fairy Tale Adventure, a 2012 update on the same formula.
The Frozen 3 segment included two new songs from the upcoming film and a clip of Anna looking absolutely gorgeous in her floral-embroidered wedding dress with Elsa as her maid of honor in pink. The footage also teased a new faceless villain who also has ice powers. Earlier, the panel previewed footage of Teagan Croft and Milo Manheim filming in Spain for their upcoming live-action remake of Tangled. Although the scenery is beautiful, their costumes are cartoony and not at all historically accurate, similar to ones fans complained about in their Snow White and Moana remakes, proving that Disney has learned nothing from their previous failures. Nevertheless, this movie is happening whether we want it to or not, so hopefully it will still be entertaining.
