Fairytale Summer & Cover Reveal!

If you've been following my blog for a while, you may have seen me mention Fairytale Summer in some of my previous book reviews over the years. The summer festivities are back again for 2026, and will last for the entire month of July! If you'd like to share reviews for a chance to win bookish prizes or get to know some talented fairy tale authors, make sure you join the True Flame Fairytales Facebook group. The event started on Wednesday. There are already tons of posts filled with friendly interactions between readers and writers. In fact, I already won a prize! I will be receiving a paperback copy of Fairest Hunter by M.K. Felix in the mail, and I am eager to share my review when I receive it.


Fairytale Summer isn't only about winning prizes. Every evening, a new author will be sharing a fun "takeover" of the group, where she will get to know readers by posting about her books along with games and other fun goodies. I am thrilled to announce that I will be among the featured authors again this year. Last year, I featured all three of my books from The Stolen Trilogy for my takeover, and this year, I am featuring Titania's Reflection. I also have some surprises in store, so you won't want to miss it. My takeover date is July 8th. I will be sharing my posts at 5pm CT/6pm ET. I hope to see you there!


Speaking of my books, today is an exciting day for another reason as well. I'm finally ready to reveal the cover for the second book in The Legacy Chronicles, Ocean and Blood's Legacy! When I first announced Hope and Love's Legacy on National Fairy Tale Day, it was planned as a standalone that encompassed the events of the animated series I wrote as a teenager. However, I fell in love with the enchanting world of Imperium and realized I had more stories to tell, so I'm now planning a full trilogy. Each book in The Legacy Chronicles covers a new generation of characters related to Spero and Amoura and their adventures in Imperium. This book focuses on Spero's little sister, Melanie, who had a small role in Hope and Love's Legacy.

Ocean and Blood's Legacy was a unique challenge for me. It tells a shorter overall story than its predecessor, but it has a broader scope that covers six different points of view spanning several different time periods. The first book contained Elizabethan time travel, and this book contains time travel to the Victorian era with a Gothic side plot inspired by tragic romance stories such as Corpse Bride and The Phantom of the Opera. The primary plot is more light-hearted to balance out the heavier elements and involves Melanie going on a mermaid adventure with a merman prince. The book is available for pre-order now on Amazon with a Halloween release date.

Only one month after my recent obsession with Find Me in Paris , the time-traveling ballerina princess drama dropped its third and final season on Hulu today. Though somewhat predictable, this season offered a satisfying conclusion to the show's unique concept that combined dance with science fiction and tied up all remaining loose ends from the previous seasons. We finally learned the truth about Lena's birth and why she's always being chased by anyone remotely interested in time travel. Nearly every character got paired off at the end, even if it meant some questionable decisions on behalf of the writers. Review: Sofia the First - Royal Magic

It's been four years since the announcement of a new Sofia the First series. Today, that series is finally available to watch on Disney Jr.  and will be coming to Disney+ tomorrow. Sofia the First: Royal Magic  is everything I hoped it would be, with callbacks to the original show and most of the original cast and crew returning alongside many new faces. Sofia is back with her iconic purple dress, magic amulet, and the same sweet and cheerful personality that we all know and love. The show's pilot included a cameo from Rapunzel that referenced a "council of princesses," but this hint to additional Disney Princess  adventures is not mentioned again in the rest of the eight episodes that premiered today, so we will have to wait and see how she encounters other classic princesses in the future. New Princess Anime for the Spring 2026 Season

A new season has begun, which means there are tons of new anime shows available from Japan. Going over the long lists of new shows every three months can be overwhelming, so I'm here to curate the most princessy shows each season for you. This Spring brings us two unique princess shows and two villainess shows ,  which is a popular princess-adjacent genre with new offerings for every anime season. For me, the standout series of the Spring 2026 anime season is Always a Catch , which places a unique spin on the broken engagement trope . What makes Always a Catch unique is that it subverts the trope of modern princess anime shows that start with a wicked prince breaking off his engagement to a noble lady, resulting in her winning over a different prince. Review: Cosmic Princess Kaguya

The latest princess movie on Netflix is inspired by an old Japanese legend, but it isn't a direct retelling \like The Tale of Princess Kaguya . Instead, Cosmic Princess Kaguya  takes place in a futuristic world where most young people are obsessed with a popular virtual reality game, similar to the anime movie  Belle . It also follows the recent trope of modern musicals like  Six  and Between the Lines  of taking back the narrative by attempting to give Kaguya a happier ending than she had in the fairy tale. Many aspects of the movie are fun and interesting, but it tends to jump around between too many different ideas. Cosmic Princess Kaguya  tells the story of Iroha, a teenage girl whose mother all but abandoned her, leaving her to grow up quickly at a young age. Review: Disney Princess - The Concert

Update:  I just received confirmation from Christy Altomare (Wow!) that she will be attending the fall leg of the Disney Princess concert tour and was unable to attend the first few months because she is performing in a new musical at the Paper Mill Playhouse  and that Anneliese has always been part of the concert. If you attend this concert in the fall, you will have the good fortunate of seeing her live! It's been ten months since Disney launched the Ultimate Princess Celebration  when they announced that they had acquired the Broadway Princess Party  and retooled it into Disney Princess - The Concert . Ten Live-Action Snow White Interpretations Ranked

Today is the day that Disney's live-action Snow White  comes out on Disney+, providing an opportunity for the many people who did not see it in theaters to watch it. In honor of this occasion, I have explored many of the previous live-action interpretations of this character that have come before. Although I still have strong feelings about remaking the first feature-length animated movie of all time in a live-action format, I did not think that Disney's newest adaptation was the worst one. Yet, it had so much competition from its predecessors that it did seem a bit unnecessary. Let's explore all the live-action Snow Whites that came before and see where this one falls. One Hundred Princesses for My 100th Post

Today is a major accomplishment for me. I started this blog 100 days ago, and I've managed to write a new post in it every day since then. Some of the topics were easier to come up with than others. I also had to go back and edit some after the fact due to poor proofreading. Speaking of which, I'm really sorry about the disastrous short story from my first Story Saturday post . The whole thing was written on my phone on the way to a Mermaid Art Show event in San Diego, so I was a little distracted. Review: The Spanish Princess/White Queen Trilogy

Yesterday, the Starz network  released the series finale of The Spanish Princess , concluding  The White Queen  trilogy of miniseries that began in 2013. Based on a book series called The Cousins' War  by Phillippa Gregory , the trilogy covers the women who stood behind the men in power in the English monarchy from 1464 to the 1530s, preceding the first two sovereign queens, Mary and Elizabeth. The White Queen , The White Princess , and The Spanish Princess  grant us a rare opportunity to see what life was like for medieval monarchs. Watching them reminded me of why I prefer the fairy tale versions of royalty. Those stories do not contain the gory deaths, gruesome births, and invasive politics that historical dramatizations like these exemplify. Princesses in Video Games

This week, I'm going to talk about different types of princesses, beginning with digital ones. I am no expert on video games, but princesses have been a big part of them ever since the NES era of the 1980s. They have become a staple of the ever evolving technology. The two most famous video game princesses are Zelda from  The Legend of Zelda , a series that began in 1986, and Peach, who evolved from Princess Toadstool in the  Super Mario Bros. series  that started 1985. Though they both began as stereotypical blonde princesses in pink dresses who needed to be rescued by the hero of their corresponding game, Peach and Zelda each stand out as very different characters. I would say it's no contest which one of them is the better princess. Even though Zelda began as a damsel in distress, the many incarnations of the series have evolved her into a wise, graceful, and confident leader. Review: Time Princess - The Perfect Storm

Time Princess has really done it this time. What have they done? They've created a pirate story that I actually enjoyed. In fact, but it just might be one of the best visual novels in the entire game! The Perfect Storm is similar in plot to Hela's Compass  as both are about a young woman who journeys to sea to find a supernatural artifact that is tied to a deceased relative, but The Perfect Storm blew it out of the water literally and figuratively with its worldbuilding, story, characters, and music. Pirates are often presented as the male-oriented alternative to princesses, and while both are  occasionally paired together , the genres are rarely combined. One exception is ab obscure Broadway musical called The Pirate Queen  that tells the story of a real-life female pirate named Grace O'Malley , but I liked this one better.
