Ten Live-Action Cinderella Movies Ranked

Image
If there's one fairy tale that's been adapted more times than most people can count, it's "Cinderella."  With a rumored Disney spinoff on the way , this timeless rags-to-riches story has even more film adaptations than "Snow White." That's not even counting books , musicals , television , and other media ! Therefore, I thought it would be fun to rank ten different movie interpretations of the beloved tale, including some you might not be familiar with. In fact, I just learned about my number ten spot earlier this week! As always, my rankings are subjective and may change based on my mood, so don't take them too seriously if you don't agree with all of them. 10. The Glass Slipper (1955) The Glass Slipper  is a lesser-known Cinderella adaptation, and for a good reason. This film lacks many of the qualities that make Cinderella movies great. There's one mediocre song, and the main actress was cast more for her ballet abilities than for her...

The Official Trailer for the Moana Remake Just Dropped!

Image
Do I still think ten years is too soon for Disney to make another Moana  movie ? Yes. Did I get excited to watch today's trailer drop anyway out of pure curiosity? Also yes. What can I say? I'm a sucker for all things Disney Princess . Although the new trailer had a lot more footage to offer than the initial teaser did, it was still extremely reminiscent of the 2016 animated classic and contained hardly any music or dialogue that wasn't pulled from it directly. You can check out the full trailer for the upcoming July 10th release below. Hearing "The Rock" quote Maui's famous line, "You're welcome," is a good indicator of the irony behind Disney making this film. Like Maui, they are blissfully ignorant to the fact that nobody asked for a beautifully animated movie to be blandly replicated with live actors, not even a full generation after its premiere. Hearing the nostalgic notes and lyrics from the song "I Am Moana" did bring a wave ...

Disney Casts Its Live-Action Tangled Stars

Image
After the massive Snow White  debacle , Disney was said to have put their future live-action remakes on hold , particularly one they were planning of the 2010 animated classic, Tangled . That plan didn't last long. It was only a few short months later that casting for the film began. Earlier this week, the official announcement was made  that the auditions were complete, and Teagan Croft  and Milo Manheim  were selected to play Rapunzel and Flynn Rider/Eugene, respectively. These two actors certainly resemble their animated counterparts and are safer choices than the diversity castings for The Little Mermaid   and Snow White , which resulted in much controversy despite both actresses giving the roles their all. Still, should this movie even be made ? I get it. Sixteen years is long enough for a child to become an adult, and yet the animated version of Tangled  still feels fresh in recent memory. Maybe it's because it never really faded away, being heavily...

It's National Princess Day, and Disney Is Recycling Another Movie

Image
Happy National Princess Day ! Is anyone doing anything fun to celebrate this year? Let me know in the comments. I wanted to take this time to discuss the new teaser Disney released yesterday for their upcoming Moana  remake , which now has a release date of July 10, 2026. This remake was announced in 2023, but many of us were hoping it would fall under the radar in favor of more original works. Last year's Moana 2  was a step in the right direction. Though still a sequel, it at least told an original story and introduced some new characters to the franchise. This live-action remake  appears nearly identical to the original film, with nothing new to offer. Polynesian actress Catherine Laga'aia  takes on the mantle of the ambitious young voyager and is a dead ringer for the animated heroine right down to her curly hair, which was made straighter for the remake to many fans' dismay. She is such a great match for the character that many shots from the teaser appear to ha...

Is Disney Making a Mexican Sleeping Beauty?

Image
Many rumors have emerged from the Mouse House of late. Some  have vanished  as quickly as they sprouted, sometimes despite a great deal of press coverage . Therefore, it's best to take these announcements with a grain of salt, especially if they don't come from an official source. The latest rumor  comes from an alleged "Disney insider," DanielRPK , with no other confirmation of its existence, which could mean it's nothing more than a push to create buzz. However, rumors are still fun to speculate about, so let's discuss the possibility of a Mexican "Sleeping Beauty" retelling called Aurora. The initial reaction to this rumor was mixed, as many are confused about why Disney would do a live-action remake  of a fairy tale they already covered with Maleficent , which is considered one of the introductory remakes to their current era of films . Fans frequently make compilation graphics of Disney's live-action princesses, including  Elle Fanning  as...

Everything We Know So Far About Frozen 3

Image
Disney has had a double feature in the works  for a few years now to conclude the Frozen  saga. What's better than one sequel but two? New plot details  were recently revealed about Frozen 3 , which is set to debut in November 2027, the month of Disney Princess movies . Per a translated Twitter post from Disney China , “In this new chapter, witness the wedding of the century in Arendelle as Queen Anna walks down the aisle and joins Elsa on a new magical journey filled with unknown challenges. And what’s even more exciting: the royal family is about to welcome a mysterious new member!” This sounds like a return to classic princess movies of the past, which have become rarer in the modern Disney canon  and may represent a nostalgic return. However, it also proves that Disney still prefers to milk franchises that are over a decade old rather than create new ones for modern generations. When Frozen  first premiered in 2013, I fell headfirst for all the hype a...

Ten Live-Action Snow White Interpretations Ranked

Image
Today is the day that Disney's live-action Snow White  comes out on Disney+, providing an opportunity for the many people who did not see it in theaters to watch it. In honor of this occasion, I have explored many of the previous live-action interpretations of this character that have come before. Although I still have strong feelings about remaking the first feature-length animated movie of all time in a live-action format, I did not think that Disney's newest adaptation was the worst one. Yet, it had so much competition from its predecessors that it did seem a bit unnecessary. Let's explore all the live-action Snow Whites that came before and see where this one falls. Please note that this is purely for fun and not an official ranking by any means. All opinions are my own. Feel free to share yours in the comments, whether you agree or disagree with my list.. 10. Snow White and the Huntsman (2012) I tried to watch this movie again recently because I didn't remember i...

Review: Snow White (Live-Action 2025)

Image
I was on the fence about reviewing the new Snow White  remake for a while, but since this is The Princess Blog, it's only fair . (See what I did there?) This movie has been the source of endless controversy over the past five years or so. Some of it was unfounded, particularly when it involved racist comments toward the lead actress , but some of it is justified. When the movie was first announced, I shared my thoughts about how the story of "Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs" has already been retold countless times by other studios in a way that modernized it with respect toward the original fairy tale and didn't step on Walt Disney's legacy. Creating a blatant copy of the first feature-length animated movie of all time  and taking away the one thing that made it special—the animation—is an insult to the animation medium as an art form. My stance on this has not changed, so here are my thoughts on this sham of a film. Ever since the backlash to Rachel Zegler...

Does Disney Have Princess Problems?

Image
A few days ago, Disney released the full soundtrack  of their controversial Snow White  movie that comes out this week. Among the multitude of new songs that have been added to the butchering of this classic film is one performed by Andrew Burnap called "Princess Problems."  This song has not been promoted nearly as much as the new "feminist" anthem, "Waiting on a Wish," and for good reason. With all the negativity surrounding this movie, anyone who sees the title of this song would have instant fodder to take it out of context and apply it to Disney directly, and they wouldn't be too far off. Disney does  have princess problems, but not the ones described in the song. A couple of weeks ago, Disney announced that they were ceasing production of their upcoming Tiana series , which had been in development hell for the past five years, upsetting many fans and even the voice actress for Tiana herself . The cause of this cancellation was their decision t...

Review: Moana 2

Image
After reading some of the initial reviews , I was skeptical about Moana 2 . However, now that I've seen it, I can say with confidence that it is an underrated classic like Wish . While it may be an infamous Disney sequel  that was converted from a failed concept for an animated series , we've come a long way from the days when Disney would slap three barely finished episodes together and call it a sequel . This is a polished, complete, and cohesive story with theatrical-quality animation and music. I am grateful that Disney finally released something original instead of another  live-action remake . Considering the destructive path they've been on lately , this movie is a step in the right direction. It is a return to what Disney does best--beautiful animation, songs, and a thrilling adventure story with a spirited princess-like heroine that is on par with the original film . A few years have passed since Moana's big adventure of returning the heart to Te Fiti so her ...

The D23 Expo Is Here With Lots of Disney Princess Announcements!

Image
Disney fans from all of the world are gathering at the Anaheim Convention Center this weekend to celebrate the D23 Expo , the ultimate Disney fan event. The Expo contains all the biggest announcements about upcoming Disney shows, experiences, and merchandise, and it is an absolute blast to experience in person . Its most anticipated event, the Disney Entertainment Showcase, took place Friday night. A whole slew of trailers, performances, and exclusive footage was revealed for all of the upcoming Disney movies over the next three years. Three of these included Disney Princess franchises – Snow White , Moana 2 , and Frozen 3 and 4 . However, the vast majority of the announcements consisted of sequels, remakes, and spinoffs , meaning there is still no update on the Penelope movie that was announced two years ago. The Snow White trailer was one of the last to be revealed during the Disney Entertainment Showcase due to it being one of the most heavily anticipated ( or dreaded , depen...
