Upcoming Princess Media & Announcements

There is a ton of new princess content coming your way this summer, so it seems like a good time for a quick media roundup. Despite what Hollywood might want you to believe, princesses and girly media are still thriving all around the world, and it seems like every country is trying to get in on the action. From France's Lolirock announcements to Italy's Winx Club continuation to Japan's fairy tale-inspired anime premieres, this summer is going to be packed with princesses. Here's everything you need to know about the upcoming princess releases worldwide.

Before I get to the summer premieres, the biggest new announcement is that Lolirock, the beloved French Magical Girl idol series, is officially getting a third season. It's been almost ten years since Iris restored her home world of Ephedia, and now she's back for new adventures with her friends, Auriana, Talia, Carissa, and Lyna, to face a vengeful Praxina, who blames them for the death of her brother. This show was visually stunning, but struggled with storytelling consistency and continuity. Hopefully, the large amount of time the creators had to work on it can resolve some of those issues. Speculation had been stirring for this new season for years before it was confirmed by the show's creator a few days ago. The new season is anticipated to premiere in 2028.

July is a massive month for new releases this year. In princess-adjacent media, Elle, the prequel series to the 2001 movie Legally Blonde. The series is not every anticipated by fans since it recycles the plot of the film with a high school setting, making it look like adjusting to a new culture was nothing new for the blonde protagonist. The new series will stream on Amazon Prime on July 1st. Part 2 of the equally divisive Winx Club: The Magic Is Back reboot is set to premiere on Netflix on July 5th, which will see the updated versions of the Winx fairies face off against the Trix. On the Disney side of things, Wicked Wonderland, the conclusion of the 2024 Descendants movie, Rise of Red is set to premiere July 17th on Disney+. This movie did not have the best reception, so there may not be many people tuning in for the sequel. You can watch the YouTube trailers for all of these properties in this post.

On the Eastern front, Summer 2026's anime season is shaping up to be the biggest princess season we've had in a while. With two fairy tale-inspired series and even more original princess stories, Japan has been saving all its best shows for Summer. Goodbye, Lara is one of the most highly anticipated anime series this year, featuring a reincarnated version of "The Little Mermaid," who gets isekaied to the modern world. It premieres on July 7th. "Cinderella," another beloved fairy tale, is getting its own spin with My Stepmother and Stepsisters Who Don't Bully Me, providing yet another "nice" version of Cinderella's family in line with Netflix's upcoming film Steps. The Ogre's Bride, releasing on July 5th, is also being touted as a "Japanese-style Cinderella story."

From French idols to Italian fairies to Japanese reincarnated mermaids, summer 2026 is proof that the princess niche is global, diverse, and far from fading. Some of these releases are long-awaited returns, others are bold reinventions, and a few might divide fans, but together they show just how many ways there are to tell a princess story. Whether you’re here for nostalgia, fresh lore, or just the aesthetics, keep your watchlists ready because this summer’s crown is too big for one kingdom.
