New Princess Anime for the Spring 2026 Season

A new season has begun, which means there are tons of new anime shows available from Japan. Going over the long lists of new shows every three months can be overwhelming, so I'm here to curate the most princessy shows each season for you. This Spring brings us two unique princess shows and two villainess shows,  which is a popular princess-adjacent genre with new offerings for every anime season. For me, the standout series of the Spring 2026 anime season is Always a Catch, which places a unique spin on the broken engagement trope.


What makes Always a Catch unique is that it subverts the trope of modern princess anime shows that start with a wicked prince breaking off his engagement to a noble lady, resulting in her winning over a different prince. In this show, Prince Renato attempts to break off his engagement with Lady Aida, but he hasn't seen her in years and confuses her with her outspoken cousin, Mimi. As an apology for the mistake (and because he finds Mimi charming), he offers to marry her instead. The only reason he wanted to cut off ties with Aida was to give her the freedom to marry his brother, Prince Placido, who had strong feelings toward her. In the end, every girl gets a prince, so it's a win/win situation for all!


The Warrior Princess and the Barbaric King is more of a comedy series with similar vibes to 'Tis Time for Torture, Princess (which recently completed its second season). This show tells the story of a princess knight who is captured by the enemy king and forced to marry him. She expects to be tortured by is instead treated to a lavish life where she is well-fed and pampered. The running gag throughout the show is her constant expectation for the king to be awful as he proves her wrong at every turn. It's a bit goofy for my tastes, but it's certainly entertaining.


The final new royal romance anime of the season falls into the villainess trope. An Observation Log of My Fiancée Who Calls Herself a Villainess follows the traditional story of a modern girl who was reincarnated into the villainess of her favorite otome game, but in a surprising twist, she tells her fiancé everything instead of trying to keep it a secret. He finds her claims amusing and goes along with all of her schemes to avoid the bad ending. Her knowledge of the future becomes vital in protecting the kingdom and preventing the heroine from stealing him away. Although she claims that she wants to become the best villainess, her actions are mostly beneficial to her love interest and their people. Another villainess show, The Most Heretical Last Boss Queen, is airing its second season right now, but it's difficult to follow without having seen the first one.


Spring 2026 is bringing some exciting princess-themed anime shows, from the romantic comedy of Always a Catch to the comedic gags of The Warrior Princess and the Barbaric King and the clever villainess tale An Observation Log of My Fiancée Who Calls Herself a Villainess. I've seen all except "The Warrior Princess and the Barbaric King". "An Observation Log of My Fiancée Who Calls Herself a Villainess" is certainly original in that Bertia wishes to be the villainess, but fails at it, unlike in "I'll be a villainess that will go down in history" (I did not liked it, the story felt unuseful). That, and she dares telling her fiancé that she is a reincarnation. In other isekai, I guess the others reincarnations don't dare saying so, fearing to be put in mental institutions if they do? As a result, for once, the main character seems to be the male love interest. I've seen season "The Most Heretical Last Boss Queen", and originality lies in the fact that Pride, the villainess our main character been reincarnated as, was not just a generic bratty rival. No, she's a bona fide last boss, and also an actual bloodthirsty tyrant. In game, Stale, her adoptive brother, must obey her through a magic contract. Pride forces him to kill his biological mother just because it amused her. Later, she let Arthur's dad, (another possible suitor) die in front of him, or locks her fiancé, prince Léon, until he loses his mind. When Pride ascend the throne, she starts wars that kills many. Once reincarnated, she 'll do the opposite, saving many lives, and being the center of attention of boys as a result, instead of her lovely sister Tiara. If Pride have a preference for one of those suitors is yet to be seen.

Review: Cosmic Princess Kaguya

The latest princess movie on Netflix is inspired by an old Japanese legend, but it isn't a direct retelling \like The Tale of Princess Kaguya . Instead, Cosmic Princess Kaguya  takes place in a futuristic world where most young people are obsessed with a popular virtual reality game, similar to the anime movie  Belle . It also follows the recent trope of modern musicals like  Six  and Between the Lines  of taking back the narrative by attempting to give Kaguya a happier ending than she had in the fairy tale. Many aspects of the movie are fun and interesting, but it tends to jump around between too many different ideas. Cosmic Princess Kaguya  tells the story of Iroha, a teenage girl whose mother all but abandoned her, leaving her to grow up quickly at a young age. Today is the day that Disney's live-action Snow White  comes out on Disney+, providing an opportunity for the many people who did not see it in theaters to watch it. In honor of this occasion, I have explored many of the previous live-action interpretations of this character that have come before. Review: Winx Club - The Magic Is Back

It seems like everyone was talking about the new Winx Club reboot  prior to its release. Now that it's finally out, no one seems to care anymore. If you're looking for a place to discuss your favorite fairy princesses (and some awesome non-princess fairies), I've got you covered. First Official Look at Sofia the First: Royal Magic!

There has been a great deal of anticipation  for the upcoming sequel series to Sofia the First , Royal Magic. After many subtle hints on social media, an official trailer has finally dropped, giving us our first official look at the show. Set to premiere this May, Sofia the First: Royal Magic has an updated aesthetic that more closely matches other shows currently on the Disney Jr. roster. The color scheme has gotten a bit brighter, focusing more on rich jewel tones than the original series' soft pastels, but the character designs are faithful overall. Sofia's appearance has not changed too much despite having graduated Royal Prep , and she now has some new friends from the Charmswell School for Magic. This Upcoming Horror Game Looks Just Like a Classic Disney Movie!

The first time I saw preview footage from Bye Sweet Carole , I thought it had been rotoscoped from Disney's Beauty and the Beast . It wasn't, but this perception was a result of the game's distinct look that is reminiscent of hand-drawn films from Disney's Renaissance and Golden Age eras. The nostalgic aesthetic  is a huge selling point for the game. It is difficult to find anything in the modern era  that recreates this style so perfectly. The game's protagonist, Lana, bears features that are similar to the character models for both Belle and Snow White. It is not unheard of for a video game to use hand-drawn animation. Dragon's Lair  and Cuphead are some examples of this. However, it is an exceptionally rare medium for interactive storytelling due to the amount of time it takes to animate every possible player scenario. Review: Bye Sweet Carole

Bye Sweet Carole  is a horror adventure game  that is entirely hand-drawn  in the style of classic Disney movies. It has been in the works for about four years, which seems reasonable, considering how time-consuming it is to draw every frame by hand in the style of Dragon's Lair . The gameplay is inspired by an old Super Nintendo game called Clock Tower , but its plot, themes, and overall vibe resemble a more obscure point-and-click adventure game called Tsioque . Although Bye Sweet Carole is classified as horror, it is not particularly scary and is made to appeal to the Disney Princess crowd, which has a tepid relationship with horror . A better description of the game's genre would be "psychological thriller," which tends to be reserved for movies and books, even though many games fit this genre as well. Today is a major accomplishment for me. I started this blog 100 days ago, and I've managed to write a new post in it every day since then. Some of the topics were easier to come up with than others. In case you missed it, there was a huge info drop today on social media about the upcoming sequel series, Sofia the First: Royal Magic . Over a month after the initial trailer dropped, Disney has provided some crucial details about the show, including the release date, platforms, theme song, and princess guest stars. We also got an official poster and several cute promo animations. Let's dive back into the world of Enchancia  and explore!
